Pear Tree case study

Old Pear Tree Barn was little more than a wreck when Simon Hancock and his wife Sue decided to renovate the listed barn into a holiday let. After four years the project is complete and features underfloor heating throughout, towel rails in the two bathrooms and a ground source heat pump.

The installation was carried out by Newquay plumbing and heating engineer Lee Woodhatch:

“I love the fact that there is no conflict of interest on this job, the underfloor heating, ground source heat pump and towel rails are all from Nu-Heat” says Lee. “The provision is there to make the system as energy efficient as possible but it is dependent on how the customer uses it,” Lee continues. “For example the towel rails will be energy efficient as long as they are only set to come on at specific, required times.”

Simon talks of the build and his reasons for choosing products from Nu-Heat’s range:

“I first heard about ground source heat pumps from a friend, Adam, who had recently had the technology installed at his restaurant. Adam was impressed with the product from Nu-Heat and the quality of the installation carried out by Lee. I went to site to have a look at the heat pump in situ and consequently contacted Lee about our build.”

“Lee’s preference was for Nu-Heat and he recommended I look at their website and product offer, which was sound advice.

I liked what I saw; the way the information was presented and explained.

“Lee sent our drawings off for a quote and although initially our Account Manager at Nu-Heat had some valid concerns about the standard of insulation we would be able to achieve we soon rectified the issue and the quote was finalised.”

“With a 7.5 acre field and the addition of a plant room to our build we had plenty of room to accommodate the heat pump and ground loops. I would like to grow vines on the field at a later date and Lee has reassured me that the pipe, because of its depth, will not interfere with my plans.”

“Lee has been great; we are thoroughly pleased with the installation work he has carried out for us. The fact that Lee is happy to use Old Pear Tree Barn as a showcase for his work confirms our thoughts that he has done a good and thorough job.”

“I think it will be a very comfortable building as there is now a huge amount of insulation in the barn and it is double glazed. We have exposed a few original pieces of the wall, which caused some concerns but you can’t take all the heart out of a building and we wanted to keep some of the original features. The underfloor heating has been turned on and it is nice and snug so we are happy with our decision to use Nu-Heat products.”

“We are delighted with the barn, we wanted it to be like a home from home for holidaymakers and I feel we have achieved that. It is great not to have obstructive radiators on the walls; it has made the design and layout of the furniture trouble-free and the temperature is always pleasant.”

The fact that our property features underfloor heating and a ‘green’ product is quite pertinent today and we hope that our customers enjoy the inviting and cosy atmosphere we have created.
