Boiler Bypass Valve

A valve connected between the boiler flow and return pipework that allows an open circuit when all other circuits are valved off. Some boilers specify the need for a bypass valve to allow boiler pump overrun. This can be manual or automatic (as shown right).

If the manual pass is fitted it should be only about half open so as to prevent a completely open circuit. Automatic bypass valves should be set to about 0.5 bar.
