Name: Mrs Stanley Project type: Self-Build Size: 67.2m² Floor Coverings: Various Floors: Screed Zones: 3
Nu-Heat’s warm water underfloor heating system has provided a comfortable environment for a new build cottage in Macclesfield, which is one of the winners of the Daily Telegraph Homebuilding & Renovating Awards.
Winner of the Best Small House category, the property was designed by owner, Mrs Stanley, and built by an oak construction company. The design of the cottage is traditional, with a timber frame construction featuring classic wooden detailing. Nu-Heat’s warm water system has been installed on the ground floor, eliminating the need for radiators and allowing Mrs Stanley “to place the furniture wherever I wish in the rooms”.
“As with most traditional cottages, the rooms are slightly smaller than conventional houses, which meant that hanging radiators could be difficult, so an alternative heating method had to be found,” explains Mrs Stanley.
“I spoke to several plumbers and installers who were quite positive about underfloor heating. The oak construction company also had some experience with these systems and approved of them, so underfloor heating seemed to provide the most logical solution.”
“The end result is a cost effective and efficient form of heating which radiates from the floor upwards to provide a comfortable environment.”
“Nu-Heat was extremely helpful with the installation. They planned the whole system, provided very detailed drawings which were easy to follow and delivered on time. All in all, Nu-Heat was very professional throughout.”
“The rooms heat up quite quickly and the system is cleaner and doesn’t create the air movement in the same way as radiators. Also, I’ve just received our first heating bill and am very pleased with the figures.”
