Sue and Mark Oliver bought a run-down, detached Victorian house knowing that it would take time and dedication to renovate it sympathetically.

Sue says, “We had done several renovation projects in the past and knew what we were letting ourselves in for. The difference this time was wanting to incorporate underfloor heating. We knew that older houses are never well insulated, and that this would have to be addressed before we could be sure the building was suitable for this form of heating. This involved cavity wall insulation, insulating all the floors, (having a cellar helped), renovating and draught-proofing all the original sash windows and insulating the roof. This was quite a performance but we knew that it would not only allow us to install underfloor heating, but keep our future heating bills down.”
