Energy saving features like efficient heating systems are now more important to homeowners than friendly neighbours, according to a study carried out by the Energy Saving Trust.

Interestingly, this mirrors the findings of a survey recently conducted by Nu-Heat Underfloor, the largest supplier of domestic warm water underfloor heating, to find out why people selected underfloor heating as a heating method in domestic buildings, opposed to traditional radiator systems.

The survey targeted over two hundred clients who had recently purchased their Fastflo-10™ system. The results were conclusive, with over 37% selecting ‘Energy Efficiency’ as their reason for choosing Nu-Heat underfloor heating over conventional radiator systems.

The good news for installers is that Nu-Heat has further enhanced the energy efficiency of their underfloor heating systems by developing a new thermal store cylinder, which guarantees to save homeowners both energy and pounds off their fuel bills.

Andrew Grimsley, Director and co-founder of Nu-Heat comments: “The Nu-Heat EnergyMaster2™ cylinder improves energy efficiency by reducing boiler cycling. The boiler heats the cylinder and the cylinder in turn separately heats the underfloor heating system and the domestic hot water supply.”

Andrew continues: “This means that if the underfloor heating requires 1kW of energy then the heat comes directly from the cylinder, rather than automatically switching on the boiler.”

The Nu-Heat EnergyMaster2™ cylinder also stores enough energy to meet the short term needs of the underfloor heating system. However, when the cylinder temperature eventually drops below a preset level, the boiler is brought on to reheat the cylinder.

As the boiler has to heat the full volume of water in the cylinder it fires for a longer period, which means that it actually works more efficiently because it does not have to keep stop-starting, unlike a traditional boiler/water tank configuration.

Nu-Heat compares the efficiency of the EnergyMaster2™ cylinder to a car engine driven at a constant speed on a motorway – it works more efficiently than a car stop-starting in town.

Another benefit of the EnergyMaster2™ is that it provides mains pressure hot water through a temperature controlled three-way blending valve, for self-balancing power showers and baths, without the need for pumps. The EnergyMaster2™ also enjoys a much faster recovery rate than traditional indirect cylinders, typically heating the water up to fifty per cent quicker.

The EnergyMaster2™ is also compatible with solar heating as the underfloor heating company has allowed the EnergyMaster2™ to be fitted with a solar coil, ensuring installers can offer their customers a truly efficient home heating system.

The EnergyMaster2™design is tried and tested with full WRAS approval. The new EnergyMaster2™ cylinder is made using stainless steel construction for maximum strength and durability, with steel clad white finish and fully insulated with 50mm of CFC-free insulation.

For ease of installation, the EnergyMaster2™ has been fitted with front connections and comes with a 25 year transferable cylinder guarantee and is available as either a 210 or 300 litre thermal store cylinder.

Nu-Heat EnergyMaster2™ cylinders enjoy an adjustable thermostat control. This allows boilers to condense to their optimum capacity - further aiding the overall efficiency of the system.

All of this means that installers can offer their customers the perfect energy-saving home heating system, which is not only kinder to the pocket, but kinder to the environment too.
