Nu-Heat’s Air Source Heat Pump 400% Efficient

As suppliers of high quality electronic appliances, Hitachi is a household name. Hitachi has appointed Nu-Heat, expert providers of integrated heat pump, underfloor heating and solar thermal systems, as the sole UK distributor of its energy-efficient air source heat pump for the domestic heating market – the YUTAKI.

By teaming up with Nu-Heat, a wealth of expertise in heat pumps, underfloor heating, solar thermal (and how to integrate each technology to ensure the best possible system for the individual project), is now available – with one point of contact and one source of responsibility, offering house builders a service that is not readily available in the UK

The YUTAKI air source heat pump from Hitachi is amongst the best in the market and is suitable for both new-build and renovation projects. It integrates seamlessly with Nu-Heat underfloor heating or can be used with a radiator system. There is also the facility to integrate solar thermal collectors to heat the domestic hot water cylinder, thereby creating a highly efficient system in new build or suitable renovations

says Adrian Troop, Nu-Heat’s Sales and Marketing Director.

How does an air source heat pump work?

Some of the key benefits of Hitachi air source heat pumps are:
  • Economy: 1kW consumption = up to 4kW heat output under nominal conditions (i.e. CoP of 4)
  • Five year warranty
  • Simple and fast installation
  • Minimal space requirement as the heat pump unit is installed outside
  • Straightforward operation: a wireless programmable room thermostat controls the heat pump
  • Versatility: multiple programming options, depending on the seasons and usage
  • Weather compensated control for energy-efficient operation and easy adjustment
  • Ease of use: the display of the thermostat is intuitive and quick to use – the heat pump automatically controls the entire heating system and domestic hot water production – including controlling any pre-existing boiler
  • Low noise levels
  • Simple solar integration

Air source heat pumps use the refrigeration process to transfer low grade energy from the air outside into high grade energy used for heating and domestic hot water. Even at temperatures as low as -20˚C, an air source heat pump can supply significantly more energy than it uses – and with no local C02 emissions, it helps reduce impact on the environment.

With fewer moving parts to go wrong, heat pumps have a life expectancy of up to 25 years and the YUTAKI benefits from a 5-year warranty as standard.

Free energy – the theory of heat pump technology

In order to access this free environmental supply an energy input is required. In a well-insulated property, every 1 kilowatt of electricity used to power the YUTAKI heat pump can provide up to 3 kilowatts of free energy. This ratio is referred to as the Coefficient of Performance or CoP, in this case the CoP would be 4.

Looking at it another way, a CoP of 4 means the efficiency of the heat pump is 400%. Compare this to a boiler at 90% efficiency and the advantage is clear.
