About
Rainwater is collected from the roof via the downpipes, filtered, stored and then used for non-potable purposes including toilets, washing machines, garden hoses, for cleaning cars and other applications. It is not suitable for baths, showers or washing dishes.
Nu-Heat supplies underground tanks that have the advantage of being unaffected by temperature extremes such as summer heat or freezing conditions. The tanks have a flat, twin-cylinder design that requires less excavation than other products and offers greater flexibility. They are made of durable plastic for strength.
How does it work?
Rainwater is passed through a filtration system into a holding tank where it can be stored. Water is then drawn off via a pump passing to the required outlet as and when required.
The system will draw on the rainwater first, but in the event of an empty storage tank, the control unit will automatically switch to mains water supply (except Garden Pack).
The amount of water that can be harvested depends on average rainfall, the size of the roof and filter efficiency.
The main advantages
An average person uses around 18,000 litres of water annually just to flush toilets and wash clothes, so from the environmental perspective of saving water, rainwater harvesting is a logical choice.
Nu-Heat’s rainwater harvesting system can replace 30–50% of the mains water consumption (depending on environmental factors), making a significant difference to an average family’s water bills where a meter is fitted.
