Any property with a roof with a 0˚(flat) to 60˚ slope and facing between southeast and southwest is suitable for solar collectors. The optimum angle is between 30˚ and 45˚. Larger collectors can be fitted to compensate if the orientation is less suitable but north-facing roofs should be avoided. In-roof and on-roof models are available and where a flat roof is present, the solar panels can be mounted at the optimum angle on framework.
Properties with a roof that is overshadowed by large trees or other buildings may not be suitable for solar panels as the amount of direct sunlight will be reduced, affecting performance. That said, it may be possible to increase the number of panels specified to meet the expected hot water demand.
Internal space must be available to fit a hot water storage cylinder. Nu-Heat supplies a range of solar hot water cylinders suitable for use with its solar thermal panels. From the sophisticated EnergyMaster2 Solar™ cylinder to more traditional dual coil cylinders, we will advise on the model that best suits the project requirements for both heating and domestic hot water.
