Meet the Quote Team

Nu-Heat’s Quote Team provide you with an accurate, bespoke quotation. They begin by checking that the project plans supplied are to scale, carefully measuring the areas requiring UFH. They also estimate the heat loss of the building using the insulation details provided, looking at building shape and the amount of glazing, checking for any areas with voids or high ceilings.

In this post, we find out a bit more about Nicola, Lucy and Raissa.

How long have you been at Nu-Heat and what did you do before?

Raissa: I’ve been at Nu-Heat for 9 years now. Beforehand, I was an Administrator for an insulation company.

Nicola: I first came to Nu-Heat for a week’s work experience and knew then that it was a place that I’d really like to work. I joined Nu-Heat 4 years ago and started out in the Admin team.

Lucy: I started 8 years ago having worked for an oil tank installation company and before that as an administrator for the RD&E Hospital in Governance Support.

What’s the best thing about your job?

Lucy: The working environment and the fact that everyone works closely to overcome any obstacles to ensure we provide the best solution for our customers.

Raissa: I really enjoy the diversity of projects we look at. In the course of an hour I can assemble bespoke quotes ranging from two room renovations, to a luxury self-build house requiring solar panels, through to a 2000m2 care home running from a ground source heat pump! It’s great to work for a family run business that cares deeply about their staff.

Nicola: All of the people! I love that Nu-Heat is a family run, local business – I’ve made a lot of really good friends here.

Do you have a favourite product or project?

Nicola: I think the whole service package we offer is a great product in itself. We take responsibility for all of our bespoke designs and CAD drawings and have our own dedicated Technical team. It gives our customers confidence in our products as well as us as a company.

Lucy: Not a product as such, but the online quotation is great as it’s interactive and gives our customers instant access to their estimate and all the information relevant to their project.

Raissa: Nu-Heat has a fantastic range of underfloor heating solutions and renewables technologies, so it is difficult to single one out! I do feel the quotation, which is accessed online, has come a long way. It has a fabulous look to it and customers can click on links directly to comprehensive information on many of the components included in their proposed system. It’s packed with details helping customers to make informed decisions.

In our next Meet the Team post, we’ll be talking to our Designers who produce bespoke CAD drawings and schematics for every project.

Meet the Team:
Business Development

Business Development Team
Nu-Heat’s Business Development Team, from left to right: Hannah, Simon, Flore and Gary

It’s likely that the Business Development Team will be your first port of call when you get in touch with Nu-Heat.

A team of four, they are more than just our front of house friendly faces (or voices!) – they are all knowledgeable in UFH and renewables, helping any type of customer, whether an installer, self-builder or contractor, to decide whether UFH is right for their project.

In this Meet the Team, we chat with Simon, Flore, Hannah and Gary to find out why they enjoy being a part of our Business Development Team…

What does your team offer customers?

Simon: We are here to help with initial enquiries on UFH and renewables, providing advice that leads the customer to the best solution for their project – even if that means telling them that UFH isn’t right for their property!

Flore: Plenty of advice on all of Nu-Heat’s products and services. We always ensure that every customer receives the best service and experience.

Hannah: As well as advice over the phone, we also attend shows across the country throughout the year, like Homebuilding & Renovating. This gives our customers a chance to see the products and talk through their plans face-to-face. We also arrange site visits and these are a real benefit for more complex projects.

Gary: I specialise on commercial projects, so offer expertise and knowledge for any commercial queries.

What did you do before joining Nu-Heat?

Hannah: I’ve worked at Nu Heat for 4 years. Before joining Business Development, I worked in the Operations Team, arranging deliveries and processing parts orders, which gave me a good knowledge of our products and how the systems integrate.

Gary: I’ve been a part of Nu-Heat for around 11 years! More recently, I was one of the Commercial Account Managers, working on large and complex projects from luxury houses to apartment developments.

Simon: Prior to Nu-Heat I had 10 years’ experience working in differing field account management positions supporting brokers throughout the UK. Most of my previous positions have been based around customer service and support.

Flore: I love sewing and used to be an account manager for a sewing machine shop in west London, advising customers on the right machine for their needs whether rented or bought.

What’s the best thing about your job?

Gary: The fact that every incoming call is different. You never know if it’s going to be a single conservatory or a development of 150 apartments!

Flore: I like being able to build relationships with customers to ensure their initial contact with Nu-Heat is a positive one.

Simon: I enjoy working here as it’s a very ethical business that truly values its customers, reputation and products. These values make it easy to promote what we do confidently. Also, being an innovative company, we are always learning about our newly released products and facing new challenges.

Hannah: It’s great being able to speak to a variety of customers – self-builders, installers, architects – as they all have different needs and questions. I always find it interesting listening to the individual projects and being able to specify a product that will work brilliantly, fitting in with their requirements.

Do you have a favourite product or project?

Simon: LoPro™Max is a fantastic product that meets the needs of most homeowners looking to make improvements to their homes and living lifestyle.

Hannah: I enjoy working with our LoPro™Max solution. It has opened up the opportunity to use UFH in a wider variety of projects, including those where it can be difficult to improve the insulation right up to Building Regs standards. Our manuals paired with this simple solution make installation easy yet still gives our customers that peace of mind that they are getting a well thought-out product with a good guarantee and aftercare support.

Gary: Mine would be the Bezier Building, a development of 144 apartments in Old Street London that have our UFH installed. It’s a great looking building that’s based on the Bezier Curve.

Flore: A function room for a Marriott hotel. It was a tricky project due to the building being listed and lots of glazing, but we worked with them to offer a solution and the support that they needed.

For our next Meet the Team, we’ll be talking to our Account Managers, putting a face to the name of the main contact in your Nu-Heat journey.

Meet the team:
Product Development

Nu-Heat Product Development Team
Nu-Heat’s Product Development Team, from left to right: Shane (Development Engineer), Richard (Senior Systems Engineer), Chris (Senior Development Engineer), Debbie (Project Manager), Peter (Development Support Engineer) and Heather (Product Development Manager)

At Nu-Heat we’re lucky to have our own Product Development Team who work to develop and test all of our innovative underfloor heating systems. They also carry out the important job of maintaining and continuously improving our existing range of products and market-leading calculation & design software.

For our first ‘Meet the Team’ post, we ask Product Development to tell us a bit more about their important roles in Nu-Heat…

What do you do, day-to-day, as part of the Product Development Team?

Heather:  I  deal with all of the team management and work with other department managers on company projects and strategy.  I also write the installation manuals and other more technical supporting literature that we provide to our customers.

Richard:  I’m involved in developing products as well as developing and maintaining our internal systems that help generate our quotes, designs, order generation and stock control.

Debbie:  As the Project Manager I work with several managers across Nu-Heat to coordinate the work involved in bringing a project to fruition.

Shane:  I’m an Engineer, so innovation ranks highly in my working week – we’re always thinking about the next project and there’s never a slow moment!

Chris:  I work mostly on new product introductions, as well as involvement in maintaining Nu-Heat’s existing products.  Purchasing is another facet, which encompasses all aspects of our product portfolio.

Peter:  I help the company with any technical issues and assist our Development Engineers with their projects.  I also manage smaller maintenance projects on existing products to make sure they’re working as they should, or to improve them if needed.

What did you do before joining Nu-Heat?

Richard:  I’ve been at Nu-Heat for 11 years now.  Before then, I worked in electronics quality assurance and database development for a manufacturing company.  I also have a Masters Degree in Engineering & Management.

Peter:  I’m a fully qualified electrician and before Nu-Heat I was a Fire and Security Alarms Engineer.  I worked in this specialist field for ten years with a few of those spent doing mainstream domestic, commercials and industrial electrical service and install work.

Chris:  I have been with Nu-Heat for quite some time, having just celebrated (with cake) ten years.  I joined the company straight from university and have had a few job titles here, originally being part of the Technical Department, who at the time were responsible for new products.

Heather:  I spent 15 years working in civil engineering doing road, bridge and drainage design before returning to university to study Graphic Design.  I also worked as a book designer and illustrator at a private press, followed by time at an advertising agency.

Debbie:  I’ve been at Nu-Heat for nine years and am currently studying for a Diploma in Project Management.  Before I joined, I worked as the Office Supervisor for the Plastic Surgeon – specialists in repairing properties and vehicles, not people!

Shane:  I was studying for my Degree in Mechanical Engineering.  My dissertation subject was an evaluation of renewable technologies and their potential to meet the heating demands of domestic swimming pools.  I was obviously attracted to Nu-Heat because of their involvement in the renewables sector!

What do you like about Product Development?

Shane:  There are many good things.  Of course, spending time in ‘The Shed’ planning experiments and testing products is great fun.  That said, it’s not the prospect of testing that makes day after day an enjoyable experience, but the people.  I am very fortunate to work with an excellent team of skilled Engineers.

Chris:  I like that often it’s the smaller projects that are interesting – we aren’t just focused around big product launches and work to improve our systems all the time.

Heather:  On a practical level I enjoy writing and illustrating manuals but I also like developing strategy and project planning.

Richard:  In the office, I like working on database development.  I’m also involved in some hands-on work and enjoy product testing, such as monitoring one of our system’s floor heat outputs.

Peter:  My favourite part of my role is not knowing what my next project might be – every day is different and no two queries are the same.

Can you pick a favourite Nu-Heat product or project that you’ve worked on?

Heather:  LoPro™Max because it is such a good and well resolved solution!

Chris:  We’ve recently developed a new tool for producing our LoPro™ castellated panel, in conjunction with our supplier in Germany.  It was interesting to see the manufacturing facility and work with their development department.  At the end of the process there is something tangible that is an improvement over the previous offering – that’s very satisfying.

Richard:  My favourite system has to be new LoPro™Max and also our extensive Handover Pack because it works well and customers really like it.

Shane:  Most recently I have been involved in the introduction of the new NIBE ASHP range.  It’s been a challenging and informative project.  I still find myself drawn to the benefits of the EnergyPro solar collector, probably because it sits so closely to the work I did for my dissertation.

Peter:  I’m relatively new to the team, so am still waiting for the products I’ve been working on to be released!

Keep an eye out for our next Meet the Team post where we’ll be talking with Business Development, the team that help selfbuilders and installers to choose the right underfloor heating and renewables solution for their projects.
