LPG Boilers

LPG Boilers

Of the 20 million heating systems installed in the UK, approximately 3% use LPG.

LPG produces Carbon Dioxide (CO2), when burnt, this being the biggest single contributor to the greenhouse effect. However, its impact on the environment is less damaging than some other fossil fuels.

Although LPG has a very small share of the UK market, principally because of the supply cost, it is still a highly regarded fuel because of its convenience and controllability.

Liquefied Petroleum Gas is available to customers either with the use of replaceable cylinders, or by bulk delivery direct to a permanent storage tank. Bulk delivery is the cheapest way to buy this fuel, but siting the tank may be inconvenient and in a few cases impossible to achieve. There are strict conditions relating to the siting of LPG storage vessels and for more information contact Calor Gas.

The fuel is delivered to the tank in a liquefied form and also stored as a liquid. When the tank is filled to it's maximum a space will remain at the top of the tank (about 15% of the total volume) to allow the liquid to turn into gas. As gas is drawn off, the pressure inside the tank reduces very slightly and more liquid turns to gas to maintain the pressure.

Apart from the occasional inconvenience of having to receive a bulk delivery (although this can be taken even if you are not at home) or having to change cylinders, LPG in many respects compares very favourably with mains gas. However, there is a very limited range of LPG boilers to choose from, compared to mains gas.
