John and Rosemary Griffiths embarked on a new build in their retirement, with John project managing the development. John, who confesses that the project management side of things was not as enjoyable or as easy as he had imagined, is pleased with the end result and very happy with the underfloor heating system.

It took the couple two years to complete their new build in Kent. A developer they knew recommended two things to the couple – block and beam construction and underfloor heating. The Griffiths took his advice and planned underfloor heating into their project from the outset.

“I had no previous build experience as such, only that I had helped with a large renovation project in Hong Kong. I had hoped that this would help somewhat towards the project management side of things.”

“Another thing that’s great about the system is the zoning. It means we can set the preferred temperature for any given room, so if we need one room to be slightly warmer or cooler, we can make it happen – controlled warmth at our fingertips. This was important to us a we went for various floor coverings. We have stone floors in the kitchen, lobby, utility and conservatory; carpet upstairs and tiles in the bathrooms and are equally as warm in each room. We enjoy the comfortable heat that an underfloor system generates. We are always snug as our feet are warm and our heads cool – the dog loves it too!”
