In order to accurately calculate the heat loss of each room we need to know how well insulated each element (walls, roof, ceilings, floor, windows) is.
New build properties will have to be insulated to a minimum standard in order to comply with Building Regulations. If your property is being built in excess of this, please let us know – this may be shown on drawings produced by your architect or on a SAP report.
For existing buildings, the more information you can give us the better. The age of the property can give us an idea of how it might have originally been built. You may even find that the building has evolved over the years, so any details on when different sections were built will assist the design.
A “u-value” is the measure of how well insulated an element is (the lower the value the better), so providing those would give us the most accurate information. If you don’t know an exact u-value, we can estimate this based on you describing the make up of each element – for example, “10 year old double glazing, or 300mm thick cavity walls retrospectively filled 20 years ago”.
