FoilBoard^® underfloor heating

FoilBoard^® is an underfloor heating panel for timber suspended floors, offering a zero height build up and a quick, dry installation.

The single-piece panel is made from extruded polystyrene (XPS) insulation with AL HEX^® aluminium heat diffuser pre- bonded to the surface making it easier to trim than rigid plates as well as removing the clicking and creaking that comes from plates when they warm-up. The panel uses 12mm pipe at 133mm centres.

The panels fit neatly in the joist (or batten) space on ‘L’ shaped brackets. Unlike aluminium diffusers, the top of the joist is free from fixings. The panels ensure good contact with the floor removing the possibility of sagging plates and poor heat output.

FoilBoard^® has been developed for dry, quick installation between timber battens or joists.

Step 1. Prepare the joists by creating notches for pipe to pass between bays, insulating with mineral wool .

Step 2. Secure the supplied “L” shaped supporting brackets to the top edge of either side of the joists bays. The top of the bracket should be flush with the top of the joist.

Step 3. With the FoilBoard^® panels cut to size, fit the panels onto the ‘L’ brackets along each joist bay, starting at the end of the notch. FoilBoard^® panels are non-structural and form no part of the floor deck structural strength, so working supports must be used.

Step 4. Starting from the room furthest from the manifold, lay the pipe following your bespoke design drawings. Continue until there is just enough tube remaining to return to the manifold.

Step 5. Once the correct lengths of tube are laid, trim excess coil length and connect to the manifold as described in your Nu-Heat Installation Manual. You can then fill and pressure test the system.
