This is a really common situation at the moment – with lots of people opening up and creating large open plan living spaces which are part new and part existing. The best solution here is to use the same floor construction throughout the whole area (old and new).

If the existing part is suspended timber (as in this situation) then you would need to ensure there was insulation below the floor deck, between the joists.

The downward heat loss over an unheated, vented space is about 45%, so insulating a suspended timber floor is absolutely essential. The floor deck would then go back down, the new area would be built to match that existing floor deck level and then a LoPro® system installed over the whole area.

For a single area up to 70msq, our LoPro® Max Onezone is an ideal, cost effective, off-the-shelf solution.
